MHNAUK met on March 31st at the University of Hertfordshire, hosted by Greg Rooney and chaired by Steven Pryjmachuk.
Anne Trotter from the NMC was welcomed for a detailed discussion on the development of new standards for pre-registration nursing, and on the NMC’s wider work to create a framework for education of which this is a part. Anne’s presentation can be found here. MHNAUK is committed to helping shape the future mental health nurse, and will be delivering a collective response to the NMC when the regulatory body’s formal consultation opens in June 2017.
In the latter part of the day members considered proposed new terms of reference for MHNAUK, including the establishment of standing groups to lead work in four key areas: education; research; policy and practice; and communications. Updates were received and discussed on developments in mental health nursing across the four countries, on our #MHNR2017 conference including the establishment of an annual MHNAUK Lecture, and from colleagues in NHS England and the Mental Health Nurses Association.
Full minutes from the meeting will appear on this site in due course.
