The nursing workforce: report from the Health Select Committee

CaptureIn October 2017 MHNAUK submitted evidence to the House of Commons Health Select Committee inquiry into the nursing workforce. Our submission can be read here, and today (January 26th 2018) the Committee has published its findings. Commenting on recent reforms to nursing education, including the creation of new routes to registration, the Committee says:

[…] we are concerned about the potential impact of these reforms on mature students, and on branches of nursing already experiencing shortages, such as learning disability and mental health nursing. We ask the Government to set out specifically how it plans to respond if these concerns are realised.

We share these concerns in MHNAUK, and agree with the Health Committee that:

The nursing workforce needs to be expanded at scale and pace.
